Author, teacher and rug
designer, Paula Alders teaches Primitive Rug Hooking in her studio in Dayton,
Texas and at the ranch near Madisonville, Texas where she and her husband Buddy
raise Angus and Branviech cattle and farm soybeans and corn. A registered interior
designer, she retired from that line of work to pursue her interest in rug hooking
ten years ago.
Her mail order business
features her original rug patterns and a collection of patterns inspired by the
art of nationally know folk artist, David Harden. She hosts occasional workshops
with guest teachers at her studios and other areas of the US.
Several years ago she
saw the need for more beautiful textured woolens for primitive hooking, and began
importing woolens from Great Britain. Her collection now includes hundreds of
plaids, tweeds and boucles in a wider color range.
For over a decade she
has been creating beautiful hand dyed woolens as well, and her book featuring
over a hundred color formulas and dyeing techniques will soon be published.
